Eagle Point Strategy:

Integrating Faith and Investments

In Psalm 24:1 God made it clear that everything on earth belongs to Him ("The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world and all who live in it;").  Given our role as temporary stewards, we believe it is our duty to please Him as much as possible by the way we manage our holdings.   As a christian investment advisor, we take this responsibility very seriously.  We work diligently to provide great investment results.  Below is a summary of principles we apply to the investment business:

  • "Do nothing out of selfish ambition."  (Phil. 2:3), and James 3:16: "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice."  There are frequently conflicts between the interests of clients and investment advisors.  As a christian financial advisor, whenever we see a potential conflict we make every effort to disclose it.  One way to minimize such conflict is to avoid being rewarded by the type of investment we recommend.  That is why we choose to be compensated by a percentage of assets managed rather than by commissions which may vary depending on the investment product or by the quantity of trades.  In that way we will have no incentive to invest in any securities that are not the best choice for our clients.
  • Biblically responsible investing (BRI) is a byproduct of following in the steps of Jesus.  We are to "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them."  (Eph. 5:11)  For "if we say we have fellowship with Him yet we walk in darkness, we lie."  (1 John 1:6)
  • It is our duty as a christian investment advisor to avoid buying stocks of companies that profit from the promotion of sinful activities (i.e. abortion products, pornography or the  promotion of homosexual behavior).
  • Investments should not follow the standard models of the world.  We are to be different than the world.    Rom. 12:1-2 tells us to place God's priorities ahead of our own.  ("Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world...")  There are many competing investment philosophies.  Many financial advisors recommend investment in "index funds" that include many companies profiting from activities that are abhorrent to God.  While we may not always know the intricate details of every company's activities, we use screening tools to avoid those that we can get information about.
  • Eagle Point offers clients a Biblical approach when planning and making recommendations.  "But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.  Peacemakers raise a harvest of righteousness."  (James 3:17-18). Our goal is to be a peacemaker, achieving financial peace of mind for clients.
